Early Heart Attack Care
Did you know that heart attacks have beginnings?
Heart attack beginnings occur in over 50% of patients, and if warning signs are recognized in time, patients can be treated before the heart is damaged. These early symptoms may not begin and end with chest discomfort or pain in the upper body.
Early heart attack care, or EHAC, is a campaign intended to educate the community and caregivers on early warning signs or symptoms of a heart attack in order to prevent the heart attack from ever occurring. Preventing the heart attack can prevent heart damage and heart disease.
Unlike most programs that promote recognition of the signs and symptoms of an impending heart attack, the EHAC initiative encourages early recognition when symptoms may be mild and may have other symptoms instead of only chest pain.
Early Heart Attack Symptoms
Remember, people may or may not experience any or all of these symptoms.
- Nausea
- Feeling of fullness
- Pain that travels down one or both arms
- Jaw pain
- Fatigue
- Anxiety
- Cold sweat
- Chest pain, pressure, squeezing or discomfort
- Back pain
- Shortness of breath or light-headedness
During a heart attack, 85% of the heart damage takes place within the first two hours. Acting quickly and recognizing signs of a heart attack can save your life.
